Zen and the art of photographyBoth of the workshops at the Peninsula Art School were wonderful, both photographically and personally. One major result has been that I have decided to slow down and appreciate the moment, and to listen to my gut and heart when tripping the shutter. The mix of people couldn't have been better. I think the group actually bonded. I miss them. I am looking forward to the next time I have the good fortune to have you critique my work and share good thoughts and wisdom. Jack Coffman, St Paul. Minnesota
Just a quick note to tell you how much I enjoyed both the workshops and that I sense that they will profoundly change my relationship to my photography. I don't know what it was — your presence and guidance, the participants, the setting, the meditations, the readings, the models, the timing, the images we shared, the discussions, the dinners, or all of the above — but it all came together for me to make a truly inspirational experience. Again, thanks for making it possible. Wayne McGirt, Los Angeles, California
The Zen and the Art of Photography workshop was wonderful. I am inspired by the photographs you take and the way you chose to live — both revealing such grace and compassion. I look forward to another Vision Quest. Johanna Welsh, Los Angeles, California
I had a wonderful experience in your workshop. I enjoyed everything about it!!! It was the inspiration that I needed to get going with my photography again. In fact, I spent all last weekend in my darkroom and was very pleased with how my Breitenbush photos turned out. I only wish I would have tried more portrait photos. Maybe I will feel more comfortable with portraits in the future. I got a lot of oh's and ah's from people I showed my photos to. What a good feeling! Thank you again for coming into my life. Shirley Buck, Oregon
I enjoyed Zen and the Art of Photography as well as Breitenbush. Although, to sabotage that healthy organic diet there, the first thing I did when I got back to Portland was to order a cheeseburger with french fries, and a margarita. I returned to The Land of Enchantment (New Mexico) with all kind of ideas about photo projects and invigorated with the art and craft of Photography. In the past I have done photography in a desultory manner; perhaps I am diffident about my talent in this respect. Nevertheless, your workshop inspired me to take/make more pictures, and to do it on a regular basis. Alvaro Enciso, Sante Fe, New Mexico
A warm aussie hello to you. I feel that I haven't quite got words yet to convey how important and transformational my time at Breitenbush was. It's funny that I have been avoiding “logging on” and answering emails for the last 3 weeks for the emotions it wells in me. I look forward to our paths crossing again. I fondly remember your 'enjoyment' at my frustration with the walking meditation and following someone else's 'distraction' while trying to stay centred and you telling me — 'that's fertile ground, use that, go make images!'. (Huff and giggle). I have called on that memory a few times. Thank you for offering an open heart. Deb, Melbourne, Australia |
